NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owner/driver Robby Gordon moved to ninth overall in the Dakar Rally on Monday by finishing 10th in the third stage of the race.
Gordon’s Hummer finished the Puerto Madryn-to-Jacobacci, 694-kilometer stage in 4 hours, 43 minutes and 2 seconds. Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah won the stage in a BMW. Jan. 5 - 10:20 pm et
Rusty Wallace Racing announced that former NASCAR Truck Series Rookie of the Year, Brendan Gaughan, will pilot the team’s No. 62 Chevrolet in a full-season bid for 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors.
Gaughan assumes the ride—formerly the No. 64—driven by David Stremme and Max Papis to a top-ten finish in the 2008 standings. The car number change—from No. 64 to No. 62—further establishes Rusty Wallace Racing’s family-owned heritage. The No. 62 was chosen in honor of Gaughan’s family racing background, which includes eight Truck Series wins while driving vehicles fielded by his family-owned No. 62 Orleans Racing team.

Jan. 4 - 6:01 pm et
The talented driver quartet for the No. 2 Childress-Howard Motorsports Pontiac Crawford Daytona Prototype is headed by three-time Rolex 24 overall winner Andy Wallace with Cup driver and 2006 Rolex 24 overall winner Casey Mears, IndyCar Series star and 2006 Rolex 24 competitor Danica Patrick and veteran sports car racer Rob Finlay.
Mears was a co-driver for the winning team that earned the overall victory in the 2006 Rolex 24, becoming the first full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver to do so. He was named in August 2008 as the driver of Richard Childress Racing’s No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet team for the 2009 Sprint Cup Series season. "I had a great time running this race in 2006 so I jumped at the chance to drive for Childress-Howard this year," said Mears.

Jan. 4 - 5:40 pm et
Defending Grand-Am Rolex 24 At Daytona winners Chip Ganassi Racing announced a two-car effort for the Rolex Sports Car Series’ 47th running of the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas will unite to form the driver lineup in the No. 01 TELMEX/Target Daytona Prototype, while Team Target IndyCar pilots Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti join Alex Lloyd in the No. 02 Target/TELMEX Daytona Prototype. Last year, the team became the first in history to win three consecutive overall titles in the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Franchitti is the first driver to ever capture the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Indianapolis 500, an open wheel title and the Rolex 24 At Daytona consecutively, accomplishing the feat in less than a year. Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt are the only others to win the four titles, but neither did so in succession.
